Abstract

We live in a time of increasing neurodiversity, which is the celebration of the variety of ways in which humans think, as well as a growing understanding of the spectrum of neurodiversity such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other neurological conditions. An estimated 15-20 percent of the world's population shows some form of neurological difference. It is time to reconsider the concept that neurodiversity can be a competitive advantage when individuals are in the right environment, capitalizing on their strengths, rather than constantly trying to overcome challenges. It is important to understand how interior design and furniture can reduce the potential for discomfort for all users. In particular, neurodiverse people.
The needs of people whose differences are neurological rather than physical are often overlooked in design. It can affect how people process sensory information, hindering their ability to achieve their daily goals. Environments designed to support neurodiversity can help create functional and aesthetic spaces that are comfortable for all individuals. The main goal of the design is not focused exclusively on just neurodiverse individuals, but society as a whole.
The research demonstrates the importance of design considerations for neurodiverse individuals, and includes design guidelines, sensory considerations, and a review of a number of previous research that has been used to create designs for neurodiverse individuals. It also looks at the impact of interior design and furniture on these individuals, highlighting the need for solutions that can be customized and adapted to their needs.
