Abstract

Burns are injuries that affect the body's tissues, and could be considered as a dangerous health problem that requires prompt treatment to minimize their long-term physical and psychological damage. In the hospitals, burns’ patients experience many painful daily procedures, and providing suitable medical gowns for these procedures is a must. This study is the first in a series of studies, and it aims to identify factors that affect burns’ patients to design appropriate medical gown for them. The study is qualitative, so eleven interviews with healthcare providers for burns’ patients, and an observation for the process of dressing and changing a patient’s gown in the burns unit at King Fahd Hospital in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah were conducted. Content analysis was used to analyze the data and draw conclusions. The study identified factors influencing the design of burns patient’s medical gowns, which are the nature of their injuries, their treatment approach, and the environment in which they are treated. This information is crucial to understanding the patient's condition and envisioning how current medical gowns affect them and their needs. The study recommends conducting research on the impact of these factors on the needs of burn patients and designing medical gowns for them based on these needs and factors.
