Abstract

With the recent growth of environmental awareness, sustainability and green design are becoming an inevitable global trend. Environmental practices are an essential part of achieving such sustainability to reduce the negative impact on the environment, and preserving natural resources. Therefore, environmental practices application in interior design aims to create healthy and sustainable interior spaces that reduce negative impacts on the environment and support the well-being of the user. In light of the digital revolution, the role of computational design in achieving environmentally friendly practices in interior design should not be overlooked. This research paper examines the application of environmental practices in interior design through computational design methodologies, and recommends the use of computational tools to enhance environmental practices in interior design. The application of environmental practices in interior design can improve energy efficiency, enhance material use, and reduce the carbon footprint. The computational design methodology includes material life cycle assessment and energy simulation to develop adaptable and environmentally friendly interior spaces. A project that adopted this design approach is analyzed to explore the beneficial environmental outcomes resulting from the application of eco-friendly practices through the computational design methodology. The results clarify the revolutionary strategy in using computational design to achieve sustainability goals and environmental practices in interior design leaning towards eco-friendly practices that provide environmental solutions through the computational design methodology.
