The Effect of Utilizing Digital Technologies in the Creation of Photo Comics (An Analytical Study and a Distinguished Students Based Visual Art Project Experiment)

Abstract

This research focuses on the impact of utilizing the digital technologies in the creative process of a mixed media visual art project based on the field of photo comics in a conceptual contemporary setting.
Since its launch after WW2 in Italy, photo comics immediately attracted a wide spectrum of audience and followers. Spreading cross borders and continents, photo comics developed and renovated its content and visual appearance in accordance to the demands and needs of its geographical location, cultural heritage, time factor and technological advancements.The digital medium has proven importance in the development, diversity and technical support of photo comics. For it has delved deep in the creative process as a whole, reaching publishing of the final visual outcome, whether printed, or virtually presented in platforms, websites and apps on the Internet.
The research highlights the unique field of photo comics, going through its evolution, development and traits, while focusing on exploring the possibilities of utilizing it as a solid base to the creation of a conceptual visual art project throughout manipulating the digital medium in the whole procedures of the creative process.
Finally, the research demonstrates the practical results of the applied visual art project that focuses on the process followed by the researcher to accomplish the project, by selecting distinguished students, to execute this extracurricular project under a unified concept and theme set by the researcher as the curator, mentor and guide, directly informing, following up and giving constant critique and feedback till the completion of the project.
